Guide · OEE

Auditable OEE: every percentage point has a source.

OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) shows how much of the planned time became good output at ideal speed. The number is only useful if everyone in the plant knows where it came from.

The formula

Availability (A)
Version: factory.oee.v1
A = operating time / planned production time

Planned time = shifts − breaks − calendar exceptions − excluded planned stops. Operating time = planned − breakdowns, setups and unclassified stops (shown, never hidden).

Performance (P)
Version: factory.oee.v1
P = Σ (total count × product ideal cycle time) / operating time

The ideal cycle time is defined per asset and product, with a version. P above 100% is a signal to review the ideal cycle or the counter.

Quality (Q)
Version: factory.oee.v1
Q = good / (good + scrap + rework)

Counts come from imports, a connector or a telemetry counter.

OEE
Version: factory.oee.v1
OEE = A × P × Q

It only exists when A, P and Q exist.

The six big losses

A Pareto of losses, in seconds, shows where the time went.

  • 01

    Breakdowns

Unplanned stops above the microstop limit.

  • 02

    Setup and adjustments

    Format and product changeovers.

  • 03

    Unclassified stops

Stopped time with no known reason — shown separately so it gets resolved.

  • 04

    Idling and minor stops

Microstops, starved and blocked time, which weigh on performance.

  • 05

    Reduced speed

Operating time that did not become output at ideal speed.

  • 06

    Defects and startup

Scrap and rework converted to time, with startup losses separated.

When OEE does not show up

  • No shifts configured: there is no planned time.
  • Machine-state coverage below the minimum (80% by default): availability is INSUFFICIENT_DATA.
  • No production counts: no performance and no quality.
  • A product without an ideal cycle time: the calculation names the missing product.

A line's OEE is the OEE of its reference asset (bottleneck or end of line). Each result stores the formula version, the definition used, the shifts, stops and counts. Ordanis Factory is in early access and has not been validated with customer data yet.
