Glossary

Glossary of reliability and industrial data.

The terms used across the site and the product, with the meaning they have at Ordanis. When a term has a guide, the link leads to the full explanation.

MTBF (mean time between failures)
Running time in the period divided by the number of failures (mtbf.v1). Only published with enough failures and data coverage. Learn more: Industrial reliability →
MTTR (mean time to repair)
Average time from failure start until the asset is back to RUNNING, counting only repairs with a reliable start and end (mttr.v1). Learn more: Industrial reliability →
Availability
In Reliability, running time inside the planned schedule over planned time minus unknown-state time (availability.v1). Different from the OEE A factor. Learn more: Industrial reliability →
OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
Availability × performance × quality. In Ordanis Factory it follows the factory.oee.v1 method, with the six big losses. Learn more: OEE →
Six big losses
Breakdowns; setup and adjustments; idling and minor stops; reduced speed; defects; startup losses. Ordanis also shows unclassified stops separately. Learn more: OEE →
Microstop
Short unplanned stop between a minimum duration (below is noise) and a maximum (above is unplanned downtime), defined per scope and versioned. Learn more: Downtime management →
Unplanned downtime
An off-plan stop lasting at least the microstop maximum. A stop is not automatically a failure. Learn more: Downtime management →
Failure
An event that the failure definition agreed with maintenance treats as loss of function. It is what counts for MTBF. Learn more: Industrial reliability →
Baseline
Normal behaviour of a signal or metric over a reference period, with method and confidence recorded. Pilot targets are only set after it. Learn more: Predictive maintenance →
Predictive maintenance
Acting before a failure based on the asset's condition. At Ordanis today this means deviation detection with auditable rules and baselines. Learn more: Predictive maintenance →
Detection lead time
Time between the first related detection and the reference event (for example, the failure). Learn more: Predictive maintenance →
OPC UA
Open industrial communication standard. The Ordanis Edge is a read-only OPC UA client: it reads values and never writes to nodes. Learn more: Asset monitoring →
Ordanis Edge
Software on a commercial industrial PC in the plant that reads data and sends it to the platform over an outbound-only connection, with a local buffer. Learn more: Asset monitoring →
Tag
A raw data point from a PLC or OPC UA server. It only becomes a useful signal once mapped to an asset. Learn more: Asset monitoring →
CMMS
Computerized maintenance management system (work orders, plans, history). Ordanis reads the customer's CMMS; it does not replace it. Learn more: Platform →
INSUFFICIENT_DATA
Status of a calculation without enough data: no number is published and the reason is shown with it. Learn more: Industrial reliability →
